We recently had a lightning strike, one of my users was unlucky enough to substain damage to his pc.

Running Nt4.0 Sp6a he receives a message INNACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE with a memory dump. This is after the system commences loading.

When I set the drive up as a slave and check the integrity it is fine.

I think a file or two got fried, any idea which one it may be? Have changed the board, processor & memory to try and elimate a problem there. All the voltages are within tolerance.

All the Dword Values have ntoskrnl.exe as the application.

Usually, when I get this error, the outcome is either of the following:

a) Boot up using a DOS/WIN95 boot disk and use fdisk to delete all partitions on the hard disk

b) The hard disk needs replacing

Good luck -----------------------------------------------------

Thanks, I was afraid of that, have tried all the usual file replacements etc. Thanks

Unless you have an emergency repair disk -----------------------------------------------------

If you have valuable data you need off the macbhine, and you know the machine had enough space, you could always do another install of NT into a directory other than WINNT? -----------------------------------------------------

Thanks, I slaved the drive, copied over all I required then removed partitions etc and reinstalled. At least NT4.0 is a fast install so not that much of a drama. Thankyou for your assistance and advice.
