Greetings,
I’m in search of a viable backup solution for an XP Pro mach however my client does not want to spend any money on it (how typical) The windows ntbackup is one option. They have an extra internal HD and want to make weekly backups of Quicken data. Thanks in advance

Hi linney

your suggestions in square brackets.
[XP uses the Read-only differently to previous operating systems when you are
looking at Folder Properties. Files are the same as before and can be
controlled via the Read-only check box.

Cannot Change the Read-Only Attribute of System Folders
]

tried that.
still didn't appear to change the folder attribute.
but all files in folder have archive attribute.

in documents and settings, Yes.
in User accounts No.

I did have troubles before ( local network) and i'd
played with domain, etc
& different computer names ianAthlon, Athlon,
xpAthlon.
& workgroups athlon, xpathlon, warroo.

maybe some of this excess baggage has resurfaced.

since reinstalling XP i haven't tried the network.

wife and self are off to Gheerulla ( near Kenilworth, Qld)
tomorrow for a couple of weeks. Friends have a property
- about 5 acres with dam, etc.
pretty good camping set up.
- power, showers (bush), flush dunny.
20 to as many as 50 people camp in tents or caravans
( RV's for US readers). 3 caravans on site already. but they have had around 20 vans at odd times.
We go to the Belli Hall to the bush dance for New Years Eve
& have our own jam sessions other nights.

i take the old portable ( win98).

I'll have a look at profiles when i get back, but i also
have a problem with the sound card. Not being recognised
- i think the sound card ( on the motherboard ) has died.
Son Adam sez it could be drivers etc so i'll prolly do a
reformat of c & d drivesm reinstall Xp etc when i get back.

if still no sound then i'll have to buy a pci sound card
(as advised by Adam).

ta again to all for the help & a good 2008 for all
