In-Coming Mail show as read before being opened. 1

I am working on a problem for a user. There are times when incoming Notes mail show as being read (black) instead of unread (red).<br>

Any thoughts.<br>

could it be that the preview pane windows is open and in User pref [additional settings] that,<br>
&quot;Mark documents read when opened in preview pane&quot;<br>
