Does anyone know if the IMS software need to installed on a server edition OS? I'm having a problem with client software it keeps asking me to log into the IMS server and it shouldn't. Avaya is telling I have to a domain admin and I need server platform. Help me Please!!!!!!!!!

I believe that it does need to go on a server OS, yes, although I haven't done a lot of work with the IMS.

While on the topic, has anyone had any issues with IMS on R3? I do have some clients using it that I would like to upgrade to R3 at some point.

Peter

kniegh, avaya are correct, you need to have server OS as stated by Morrack and you need to be using an account with domain admin rights, add to this some frigging around with DCOM settings.. All in the documentation

yeah the documentation so helpfully supplied by MrIPO on this forum (do a search here), the avaya docs are woefully inadequate.

Peter

I agree with Peter. MrIPO's documentation is great compared to the lack of information that Avaya provides. It does take some time to set up though. I'm using IMS with R3 and it seems to be running more stable than 2.1. It's running on Windows 2003 server.

I am having the same problem as you guys i have been told that i dont have to be a domain admin to install IMS onto an xp machine but it fails everytime

can someone point me in the direction of mripo's docs please

For the doccument i created go to the FAQ section of this forum. IMS all comes down to rights on the domain.

I would strongly suggest that you install all of the components on one machine otherwise you WILL have DCOM issues. I have installed IMS on XP Pro as the server, that was the VM Pro server as well, this was logged on as a Domain Administrator account.

If you are having issues with the Outlook client when booting up, check your DCOM settings and make sure that the IMS Client is pointing correctly at the machine hosting the IMS gateway service. Also as of 2.1 you will not longer see a IMS Database service, they failed to mention that this is now included in the IMS Gateway service !

Hope this helsp

Umm anotherprivatebuild !!!

i have a new xp pro sp2 box and am going to do a fresh install

i have created a domain admin user ims
gave \domain\ims admin rights to the pc
logged on as ims
do a custom install
removeing webcampain
adding speech
adding all ims components

is this correct

i have done this and i get an error after verifying the smtp
then checking the licence
an invalid licence key value 0 has been entered for intergrated messenging system then dumps me out

but when installing as administrator
and all services refering to administrator it works

very odd

but i cant have it running as administrator

i am at a blank when i install vmpro as administrator locally it works a dream but when i add this to the domain the vmpro fails to work i have a sbs2003 server any ideas anyone

Stuart..... as has been stated, Check your DCOM setup as per documentation. The invalid licence issue IS permissions\DCOM related (I suffered this pain until I corrected my permissions and DCOM setup). Follow the documentation and then also check who the IMS services are logging on as (this should be the IMS account), also check under whose permissions VMPRO is logging on as. Unfortunately with IMS it is PERMISSIONS PERMISSIONS PERMISSIONS. I have this working on a 2003 server.

ok lets start afresh as my head is in bits

i have added a pc to the domain given \domain\administrator admin rights locally
i have changed the services to run \local\administrator and \domain\administrator but the same response

installed voicemail but this does not work *17 gives a busy tone

remove the pc from the domain and install again as admin and hey prestow it works
im using sbs2003

i have rebuilt 3 different servers and used numerous different pc's but this fails at the first hurdle
mripo stated to get voicemail functioning properly then to install ims

but i am banging heads
we are in essex in the uk so if anyone can help out we will gladly pay as support off avaya is noon exsistant

Some domains force the Windows XP sp2 Firewall to always be on. That would be the first thing I'd check.
