what is the real benefit for customers to install IMS versus the standard (and free) wav file sent via MAPI or SMTP????

I know the message file is embedded and plays on an integrated player within outlook or calls your phone to play the message, and it toggles your MW indicator on your phone.

I've read all the propaganda but still find little benefit, have I missed something???

Thanks All

It gives you the ability to synchronize your email voice messages and your mailbox messages.. eg you delete it out of your email, it deletes it from your mailbox..

I personally don't think it's worth the hassle of installing it with the bull you have to go through installing it.. dcom settings and what have you.

The benefit of full integration is powerful. One interface to manage all your communications (VM, email, Blackberry, faxes). Someday sooner than you expect we will all use unified messaging just like everyone has their own voicemail and cell phone today.

Unfortunately we have struggled to make the integration work properly like we can with 3rd party UM package

I have just spent 2 days creating a 32 page doccument which highlights the exact implementation of IMS 3.1 on Server 2003SP1 and XPSP2 in a 2003 domain enviroment. This includes all of the required DCOM changes required. Post you email address in xxx at xx . com format and I will email to you.

If the IMS client is connecting to the server, and the only fault is when you try to play back, your issue lies with DCOM on the IMS gateway service on the client not being configured correctly, the document covers this in detail !

Post you address !

It's a shame it's such a pain, and to be honest, the application itself works great! It's just getting Avaya products and Windows to play nice is the problem. I guess in other companies the "syncing" up would be useful, I guess for me, I have no problem deleting it from both places if I have to.

CCC on the other hand, I agree can also be a pain to install. But as soon as you get the order down, and know the little ins and outs of it all, it's not too bad. For instance:

Install in this order I find works best

1) IIS
2) MSDE or SQL
3) ASP.NET (version 1.1)
4) CCC

I've found installing ASP 1.1 after ISS installs the required web extensions needed for reporter to run (.aspx and such). A lot of time, if I had ASP.NET installed before IIS, those extensions never got included with the install and reporter would hang.

Other people may have other ideas, these just work best in my history.

thanks all, this gives me a good picture regarding this line of products, I have to agree it's a difficult installation but once it's running it seems to be a good application. I am still not sure an integrated mailbox is all that important though I do see it's the wave of the future. Maybe a bit of overkill given the size of my customers and their financial resources.
