Ok please help - On Macola 7.6.400b

I have just finished doing a physical inventory of all the parts in our warehouse which consist of about 9000 items.

I use some old Mars scanners and convert them into a file according to Macola specifications for importing an ODB file see below:

C 674825 000000106.0000 X91B1 WH
C 674826 000000025.0000 #61 WH
C 674827 000000001.0000 .125 WH
C 674828 000000001.0000 .187 WH
C 674829 000000429.0000 0-56 WH

(Ignore the spacing looks perfect in the text file)

Now I go to step 1 which is Physical Count Selection: and choose when I click on count Physical Count Tags it shows I have 40,910 items. I create a batch with the starting tags number of 674825. I have tried this 2 ways one with it create Physical Count without Item numbers selected and one time with it unselected

Then I go to BC -> Import Physical Count tags and I select the ODB that I copied above and the Batch created the results:

On the selected (Without Item numbers) on attempt 1 I get - NOTHING IN RANGE

On the unselected (Without Item numbers) attempt 2 I get - Not all items counted

Neither one updates my inventory number

Please help there must be a way to automatically update inventory numbers I know I have done before without manually keying in part#

Thanks you in advance

Actually step 1 is physical count selection. Whatever you scanned must also include the tag #, which by definition does not exist until you perform a count selection.

Also, there is no Macola menu called "physical count tags". So what precisely are you doing after physical count selection?

You do realize that importing the counts in BC will NEVER update your inventory correct? All this does is act as a substitute for the painful manual input of entering the quantity counts on 9,000+ items. To update inventory you need to post the count tags.

Forgive me maybe I might not be explaining correctly but I am starting off by going to IM->Process->Inventory Count->Physical Count Selection

In this step I create a batch called Sept14 with starting with Tag # 633212

Step #2 I go to BC->Trx->Import->Import Physical Counts using the ODB file that I constructed using our barcode scanners with the Macola format (see first thread)and the batch Sept14 at which point I get Nothing in Range.

My hypothesis is that the Macola batch Sept14 is creating a file with tag # assigned to item # and that the ODB file I created doesnt match that? If so how can get a text file of what Macola is using for tag #'s so I can make it match. It only gives me an option to print after step 1.

Thank you dgillz for your input so far..

IMHO you are correct, not having the right tag # is your problem.

Why do you want a text file of what Macola is using for the tag# for that particular item/location? Why do you not already know this info?

What are you scanning? Why does it not know or look up the tag #?

Also please answer my question from the earlier post: You do realize even if you get the odb import to work that it will not update your qty on hand, correct?

Because if I want to make it match I need to have that in a text file.. so I can match it up

I am scanning from some old mars scanner the actually scans barcodes of the items in our factory the format looks like this when I scan:

I01B201RC07GF1RJ 07700
I01B201RC07GF1R8J 10000
I01B201RC07GF2R2J 04900
I01B201RC07GF3R3J 04400
I01B201RC07GF4R7J 04600
I01B202RC07GF5R6J 04100

then I convert it into something Macola can read like this:

C 678732 000009718.0000 RC07GF184J WH
C 678733 000005086.0000 RC07GF185J WH
C 678734 000012184.0000 RC07GF1R8J WH
C 678735 000008728.0000 RC07GF1RJ WH

As you can see the barcoder don't know what the Tag # are going to be from the original scan

Any ideas on how to put this in? SQL script?

I bow to your expertise and realize the ODB doesn't update the inventory file then may I ask how I can? And what is the point of the ODB import if it doesn't do anything?

My idea was to get the ODB and manipulate it to have the correct Tag # that Macola wants but again how do I find out what the tag # are I don't want to use the 3000 page print out from step 1 and manually type those in. I could use excel or something if I had the text file of what Macola assigns tag# in step 1

I think I am just droning on forgive me...

The ODB updates the IMTAGFIL_SQL table. When those tags are posted in Macola, then the inventory is affected.

I actually have an excel addin that does this, check out my website.
