Importing mpeg

I need to import mpeg footages in my composition but all I see is a blank screen. Does After Effects support mpegs or do I have to convert my video to a different format?

Not sure about v5.5, but up to 5.0, mpegs aren't supported. Which seems pretty stupid, and if you're listening Adobe, how about a plug-in to support an mpeg output module?

In AE 5.5 mpgs are supported, the only problem is that the audio tends to be lost in the importing process, kind of a bummer, but oh well.

mpgs are supported in AE 5.5 but first thing to do is to convert your mpeg file as an...

avi if you re working on windows
or quicktime if working on mac
(choose uncompress to not add new compression artefact on the picture)

because sliding frame with a mpeg file to work with is a nightmare !
