Importing more than 16383 records from Excel 1

I am importing a straight Excel spreadsheet. It contains 35,000 rows but when imported into Access 97 only 16383 records are imported.

Just a few hints that always help me,

let access create the ID's
check the field types in excel, if in dout make them General
make the headers the same names and in the same order as the database, this one seems dumb but it has saved me more then once
