I made my banner in all seperate layers and all in photoshop. When I go to import I get the error "One or more files not imported because there were problems reading them." I've tried multiple different .psd files, not just this one and all give the same error. I am using Photoshop 7 and Flash MX. Any ideas? Thanks.

Don't think you can import a .psd in Flash! Regards,

If you go to import, in the choices for types of file to import, Adobe Photoshop is on there as well as MANY other programs.

unless you have some great reason for using psd why not save as png. flash has no problem with that.

You can only import Photoshop files up to v3 - after that the .psd format won't import (because it's layered, the early version of PS didn't have layers).

The thing is I have all my photoshop info done on seperate layers and I wanted to use those seperate layers to animate. Any ideas on how I could do that since I can't have layers? Because I need the layers to do the animation in the way I need to. Thanks again.

save each layer independently then import to flash ,
rearrange and animate as you wish

You can actually save the PS file as a PNG which supports layers just like psd. Then import the PNG into Flash which will give you the option of keeping the layers and using the graphic as a movieclip or flattening the image.

This way you don't have to do multiple saves and imports, I use this to get images into Flash from Fireworks and it works great.

it didnt worked..i also had the same problem.. i use Photoshop 7.0 and a created a png file and imported it into the flash mx but it gave me the error then i used fireworks to create the same file and saved it as png and then imported it to the flash it worked..

if i save a picture in photoshop as a .PNG , and import it into flash mx, does flash convert it to websafe colors? because i did this, i got all the layers but the quality was really bad

as far as i know pngs support up to 16 million colors, it depends on how the png is saved. might be that you haven't checked the saving properties carefully enough and so it converted the image into a 256-color one.

Really detailed information on pngs can be found on

Guys I forget what it was, but if you goto flash kit, on the home page, there was a link to a new plug in for flash where you can import photoshop layers directly. Fully editable with photoshop effects staying in tact. Drop shadows, outer glows, etc.

Well I take that back, works on windows too. Very cool plug in.

Not for most things, but every now and then when you need that effect that you can only get by saving as a transparent png and importing into flash.

here ya go..........

When i saved the file as a png, it appeared fine in photoshop, but when i open it up in flash the colors are websafe i believe. Is there anyway to prevent this? ar am i stuck with websafe colors if i want to use flash?

Goto the library and right click(windows) or command click(mac) on the image and choose properties. Change the compression on the image from import jpeg or whatever it is, to lossless png or gif.

You should be fine.......

Ok, i think there may be a problem with my color scheme.. what does it mean when a png file has different colors when opened up in a internet explorer browser and photoshop?
