I am stuck! I need to import data from Excel into Access.

The problem that I have is that one of the fields is a number that contains more than one decimal.

i.e. "6.1.1.2".

I have tried changing the fromat to 'text'in both Excel & Access, but Access insists on importing it as a number (double) because the first few records only have one decimal (i.e. "6.1") and I guess that this is what Access bases the data type on. This means that it generates import errors when it finds an entry with two decimals.

Hopefully this is simple to solve, but I don't know how! Can anybody help please? Thanks in advance

I know the problem you mean. There are a number of possible ways round it. I have found that it sometimes works if you creates a dummy top row that contains text in every field that causes the problem; import that that delete the dummy row. Alternatively you could save the spreadsheet as a CSV file and then use the Import Specifications inthe import wizard to define the field types.
