On one machine at work in word/powerpoint 2000 i have a font called avant garde. I want to use this font in illustrator 8 but when i look in the font menu it's not there. I've tried searching for the font on the pc but nothing comes up for avant garde or avant or even av. Where does word get this font from, i've tried looking in c:\winnt\fonts

Does anyone know where i can get this font from and how i can import it into illustrator?

Thanks,

Mark

what type of file ext is it? .ttf? browse for the font under files -> search

I've tried that already. A lot of the fonts have short or strange names so I can't tell which one it is.

Look for *.FON also. It might not be a TrueType font.

If you drop the unknown fonts into your C:\WINNT\FONTS folder, you can then view them by double-clicking on them in an explorer windows while looking inside C:\WINNT\FONTS.

Fonts have signatures (TrueType at least) and they cannot be duplicated, even if they have different file names.

When you open them (double-clicking), the proper description will be listed in the examples... just look for AvantGarde.

fonts WILL WORK, one you go to regional options and set it as whatever type it is
for example: you installed chinese fonts and you want it to work; make sure your locale location is chinese (xxx) and other menus are set as chinese; reboot pc afterwards and you'll be on your way
