Hello,
I want to import an excel spreadsheet so that it overwrites an existing list within Sharepoint. I start to import the spreadsheet, give it the same name, select the range etc. It just stops the process after I click on import, no error message. Is it possible to do an import this way so that it overwrites an existing file?

Excel 2003

Thanks

Hello,

Without some custom development you might be out of luck, since the 'Import from spreadsheet' option only creates new lists, and there are no way to make that process delete your existing list without doing manual work or creating your own importing solution.

The good news is that doing this is probably a lot easier than it seems. If you have done some development work I even have an article in my blog that outlines how you can use custom code to import excel data to SharePoint.

Note that this article assumes Excel 2007, so you would need to exchange the Excel reading part with a 2003 version. Or, you could open your 2003 file in 2007 and save as 2007 format.
