Hi Everyone,
This may be an easy question, but I'm trying to load a .dbf file into a SQL Server Table and when I try to import it using the wizard it's asking for a DSN. I usually import text files or Excel spreadsheets (which is usually what I open this file with but this time it exceeds the maximum number of rows for the spreadsheet so I won't be able to load all of the data) and I'm not sure what to do with this type of file. Any ideas on how I should load it?

Click on the 'Other Connection' button in the DTS Designer. This will create connection to 'other ODBC Data source' or something like that. You will first need to select dBase (whatever) from the drop down menu, then specify your file to import from.

Hope this helps,

Alex

Hi Alex,
Firstly, thanks for your help. Now I can see the file and select, but when I click on the transform button it says: Microsoft Jet Database Engine could not find the object and Error calling OpenRowSet on the provider. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry, but I don't work with .dbf files very often. If you have tried all the different variations (dBase III, dBase IV, etc...) then I think you might be missing the structural component of the .dbf. I think it is called a .cdx file or something like that?

What I do when I have one of these is use FoxPro to open it, and then export from FoxPro to a .csv. So if you have FoxPro, this might be an option for you.

Hope this helps,

Alex
