This may seem like a very basic question, but I am having trouble figuring out the SAFE and CORRECT way to do this. I have over 500 records already in my database, and need to import information to fill specific fields associated to each records. The information currently is in MS Excel.

Can this be done SAFELY - i.e. without corruption of the existing databse information? If so, how? Via Query?

Thanks H. Jessen

I've not imported Excel data directly into a populated table so I can't speak to the safety of doing that. Have you considered imported the Excel data into an empty Access table then use the data in this new table to update your existing Access data? Just a thought. I'm going to hang on for the ride with you hoping someone will enlighten me.

There are several ways to do this but the safest is to import the spreadsheet into Access as a table (make sure the spreadsheet is in a suitable table-like format first), by doing New|Import Table.

Then make sure the datatypes of the imported table are the same as your existing table.

Then create an Update query using the two tables linked by the common key field(s).

Access Help should assist you with using Update queries.

Thank You ALL for your assistance. I think I have what I need now. H. Jessen
