I am kinda baffled.

I have an excel file that I am importing to access. The column I am importing to is formatted as text. Some fields are text and some are numeric in this column.
Access keeps converting the numbers from 8000398000 to something like 8.0004e+009 when I have the excel file closed.
When I import the file with the excel sheet open is does not convert but imports properly.
Any ideas?

There are various odd problems importing from Excel. I have found that if you format the column as Zip Code it will import 'as is' rather than converting to scientific notation. You are likely to get more information on importing problems if you post in one of the Access fora, for example, forum181.

Any chance you could advise me as to how to import an excel file to Access?

You can use TranserSpreadsheet. If you require more detailed information, please post in forum181.
