Hi all,

I am pretty new at this db thing and was given a project that involves importing data from access '02 to oracle 8i. So here is my question what is the best way to go about this? Do I create tables first then import or import the whole db or link the tables? I have looked around for some simple instructions but so far have not found any.

thanks for any help,
jason

simplest method is to set up an ODBC link from ACCESS to ORACLE.

Open Access, select the table, right-click and choose export.

In the file dialog, go down to FILES OF TYPE, and choose ODBC database.

Then choose the odbc source you previously set up, login, and presto, Oracle table.

The login you use will need create table priv.

Hi,
Presto, maybe..but OOPS if a few pre-export tips are not followed..

Change the TABLENAME and FIELD NAMES to UPPER CASE -
Change any memo fields to TEXT ( Oracle will convert them to LONG if you do not do this first..You do not want that)

Be sure all field and table names are in a Oracle supported format ( no spaces, special characters -except underbar in some_cases )....
