unable to send mail after importing .pst files into Outlook 2000. Running XP/2000 and Outlook when importing .psts Outlook doesn't send mail. The mail sits in the send folder. Problem is interminent.

when you say importing, do you mean you've taken mails from a pst and brought them into the main Inbox, or are you just talking about attaching pst's as additional folders?

Yep I have imported the .psts into the user's inbox

and you're talking about composing fresh emails using addresses from the current GAL, right? Not composing emails using addresses from the imported pst's?

Does the imported .pst's have its on Global Address or does it pull it off the exchange mail server or the user's.pab?

The user received a new laptop. He imported his .psts to the laptop and then attempted to send mail. His mail goes to the send folder and sits. The problem is interminent. He is replying from the imported .psts though. Is this causing the problem?

yeah, that's what I was getting at. it's likely that the distinguished names associated with those imported addresses are not valid on your server. so, instead of replying to imported mails, he should copy/paste the body of the imported mail to a fresh message and enter the user's address manually or via the GAL, depending on the situation...

Your solution sounds like it maybe the problem. However, the emails sometimes go through and it hasn't happen in about a three weeks or more. Do you have anymore suggestions? His .pst file is large

unfortunately, I don't know another way around it, and as you're seeing, the problem will go away eventually, due to the user replying to "new" emails, as opposed to the old ones you imported. I would just tell them, "if you're going to reply to a message that's dated prior to (whatever date you did the import), be advised that you should re-enter the recipient address to avoid delivery problems".

Thanks, for your help. I relayed the info over and hopefully it solves the problem.
