I need to link a table on a text file.
The problem is that the text file has an ec2 extensie, this is because it works with an other program that updates this file. With linking this file on a table I can follow changes in access. But I can't find a way to link an ec2 file.

What version of Access are you using. There is an "issue" with Access 2000 and later that prevents importing (or presumably linking) to text files that do not have certain, pre-determined file extensions.

This is not a bug, but a change in the design of Access to help prevent users from carelessly editing critical systems files, which may be simple text files with atypical file extensions (like .sys).

There is a KB artical about this.

I'm using access 2000.
So means this that there is no way to do it.
Is there then possible to run doscommands on startup, where I copy the ac2 file to a txt file, and link that than to a table. That way he will refresh the txt file every time he startsup the access database.

If this than the best way, or is there an other way to go around the extension protection????

Thanks for the help above, but now I have to find a way to go around the protections.
