I have a subroutine set up to import a text file using the docmd function and transfer text argument. To import the file properly I had to establish an “Import Specification” and reference it by name inside the docmd function. When I copy the database to another computer and run this it gets an error telling me it can’t find the specification name. Can anyone tell me how to copy that info I saved as an “Import Specification" to another PC?

Thanks,

You should not loose anything by copying the database. Did you include a path in the specification, and if so...is that a valid path for the new location and/or does the new location have permissions if the path is pointing to a network drive/folder? Other than that...I have no suggestions.

You probably know this already but to prove that your import spec is still there you can go to Tools-->Options, check System Objects under Show. Then look at the tables MSysIMEXSpecs and MSysIMEXColumns. There's your import spec. If those tables aren't there then it's truely gone.

I seems to be working now. I had a working database, then I slit it, encrypted it, and made install sets with the developers (Access 97) edition. When I installed the app on another computer the macro that ran the import stopped working. At the time I though that there was some system file I was missing from the original PC. Based on what you have told me, it sounds like some somewhere along the process, maybe when I split the database, the copy it created did not have that Spec record.

Thanks for the help,
