Hi all,

When I import some data using a script or the import wizard which contains é,è or à characters the data is converted into @ or $ characters. This is very annoying since my exported tables contain a lot of these characters. The language of my sql server is English (United States). Does anyone have a solution for this?? Thank you very much in advance.

What is the datatype of the column you are importing the data into? You probably need a Unicode datatype (nchar, nvarchar). Good luck!

Thanks for the reply John. I've tested your suggestions but I get the same result. The weird thing is when I use the import wizard in my enterprise manager and use an sql query with an insert command my charachters are already changed in the wizard. So that's why I think the language is incorrect. If I type the charachters directly into my table they are fine.

have you tried changing the collation for the specific columns containing this information?

Yes I've done this, but no result. The fact is that when I export my table with the correct data to an .sql file everything is done fine, my charachters are not changed. When I run the import wizard and choose the .sql file using the browse button, the charachters are changed on the screen. So I think sql server simply doesn't recognise these charachters because of a language issue. Collation language of the database is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, maybe this has something to do with it, I also don't know how to change this setting after the database is created. There has to be someone who ever had the same problem!!
