Import Map For Assignments - The finish field is not being imported

Hi there,

I'm having a problem trying to import data from MS Excel into MS Project.
I have an Excel spreadsheet with each row is basically an assignment (contains activity name and end date (task info) and Owner(resource info)) - I'm therefore trying to set up an assignment map that maps the following information (Excel field name -> Project field name):
Activty -> Task Name
Date -> Finish
Owner -> Resource Name

Activity and Owner are mapping fine. However, the date will not correctly map to the finish field - Project seems just to ignore it and enter the current date as both start and finish dates.

I can map Date -> Finish fine if using a Task mapping, but of course, then I can't import the Owner information. I assume its something particular about Assignment Mappings, but I don't know what.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this and how to fix it?

It doesn't help at all but I am having serious difficulty opening an Excel file from MSProject. I find that various data (Task Names, Predecessors etc) are left out seemingly at random. If I make any progress I will let you know.

Thanks! I'll put my progress up here also.

So far, I've discovered that if you map both a start and finish date (rather than rely on the start date defaulting to today's date) then it maps perfectly.
