I received an Excel file with a couple of fields in General Format. Each field contains just a couple of characters (for ex “Yes”). However after importing file to Access 2002 I noticed that it generated text fields with 255 characters length.
Is there any way to import fields to Access in order they appear shorter? Will it help if they create those fields in Text format in Excel?

Thank you in advance,

Iren

As far as I know Access will always create a 255-width text field in a newly imported table. But if you import into an existing table, which has say a text field of size 20, it will not change it to 255. If data exceeds the length it will generate an error table and may truncate it. Not sure. You can save it as a specification also.
