hi there

does mysql have any functions/methods to select data from ms sql and insert them to my sql tables?

Not that I'm aware of.

Look at TDS and ODBC. Are you a programmer? If you load tdsodbc for Linux and set up the ODBC source, you can create a simple program in PHP/PERL/etc. to import the data and push to the MySQL DB. There are many ways to do it, but we need to know what your experience level is.

Nevermind. I see you cross-posted in the PHP forum.

I was hoping to find a way to do it through mysql independently of any programming language, do you think there is a chance?

you can always link the server from the ms side and push the data to mysql.

I've never tried it that way. Wouldn't even know where to begin. I've been connecting to MySQL, M$SQL, and DB2 through PHP to accomplish that.

Point taken.

Funny, but my searches never return any microsoft related answers. :)

I looked at a few of the links in the search, they all seem to have problems when they try linking. Glad I don't have a reason...yet.

yeah, I know, mssql is pretty 'restricted' when it comes to linking foreign servers. I've been there and it was pretty bad, I ended up making a middleware to handle transactions between mssql and mysql.

I have no access to ms sql, I only can work with my mysql server, I doubt that it does any of such things

I would suggest this Import Access tool - You can use the import wizard and it has schedule import feature too. I think it's suitable for your case. Not sure if this will totaly answer your question but it may be of some help.
