Hi All,

Sorry is this is a dumb quesiton, but does anyone know
an easy way to import an EDI file into Access? I can write
a VB application but that seems like a lot of work just to
import the data.

This is for a small project so I cannot spend a lot of money. I haven't been able to find anything by searching the web...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

Thanks,
Ardan

This is a bit of a weird request since Access is a relational database and EDI is not really relational data, i.e. each sement does not have the same structure as a the previous one. What exactly do you expect the resulting table(s) to look like?

Hi voyageur,

Sorry if the request seems "weird" but I really don't think it is, I have found appliations that will perform this task but all are outside of my budget for this project.

EDI is not relational but is structured, for each order or seqement I would need to create a header, then a line, and possibly further lines depending on how many loops there are.

I can see now that I will have to write this myself, no problem I was just trying to save a few hours work...

Thanks anyway

The way we import EDI data into Access is first running it thru a translator to create a flat file.
