Hi
Was wondering if anyone can help?

I am trying to import data from Oracle database but now sure how i can do it.

What i did was:-
Data>Import External Data>Import Data>+Connect to New Data Source and click Open > Selected Oracle

Its then asking me for the server name which I am not sure of. Is there anyway of checking it?

Thanks.

Hi,

FIRST, you must have a DRIVER configured for your database/server.

Yes, you must know the server. Your IT sould be able to help you, and, chances are, you'll need some sort of permission/access clearance to USE this.

If you know the server and have the necessary permission, to configure a driver, Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC)

In the ODBC Data Sources Administrator window -- System DSN TAB, ADD button, scroll to locate either the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle or Oracle in orahome92 (or something similar) and FINISH. Put the Server Name in the Data Source Name and TNS Service Name. TEST your connection and then OK.

When you do you Data > Import External Data process, you'll see your server name in the list.

Skip,

for a NUANCE![tongue]

If you have 'TOAD for ORACLE', you can do the same from the 'other side' (from ORACLE side) - save the data you request from ORACLE in xls format.

Or save it as:
Access database file
Delimited Text
Excel instance
Fixed field Spacing
HTML table
Insert Statements
Merge Statements
SQL Loader
XML (plain)
XML (with XSL)

Have fun.
