I need to connect my new HP iPaq to groupwise and decided to use IMAP4. My Post office and Internet Agent are on the same server, and they can both do IMAP4.

Which one should I use?

I also allowed my Internet Agent to relay mail, and opened up the SMTP port on my firewall so I could send when out of the office but that made me an open relay. Any suggestions round that?

Close SMTP to being an open relay. You can bounce stuff off of it with authentication. No problem.

you didn't mention your GW Version. GW6.5 had IMAP issues on the Post Office -- I would probably go with running it on the GWIA.

I have now found which for 14GBP a year will allow me to send from my iPaq and close my own SMTP port (our mail comes via mailcontrol.com).

Yes I am using 6.5 so I will swap to GWIA IMAP - thank you for your help.
