We would like to change over to Exchange Server 2000.
We are currently using IPSwitch Imail-Server 6.0 would anyone happen to know of any good links that can help me with the conversion.
and download ExtractUsers (it's free I believe) you will be able to export to a text file that is tab delimited. If I remember my minute knowledge of exchange it pulls the user accounts from the system user database so you may run into a problem importing them as this would be a huge security hole. Just imagine if someone was able to gain access to the machine by some other hack and create a user or MANY users (think FTP servers anyone?) by importing a file.
We have fairly small (<200) user base so getting their names in isn't too huge a problem.
What I'd LOVE to know is...
How can I get their mail boxes (.mbx files in iMail) into Exchange.
The only solution I can think of at this point is to have users pull their old mail into Outlook, and then sync their Outlook client w/ the new Exchange Server.
Thats the safest way to do it. If you were going the other way you could use the tool imail has to pop3 into the old server and save the downloaded mail into the new imail accounts but that wont help since your going imail to exchange. If your just changing out the software or hardware or both with the same IP things are considerably easier then changing IPs as well. I have a document somewhere on how to change IPs on a mail server to make the DNS change easy, with little to know missed e-mail. Let me know if you want me to post that.
