You can re-image your bcms hard drive with that. in case of a broken harddisk or damaged harddisk contents.

I am not a BCM Technician but I am a LAN admin.

What is the best way to create the image of the BCM disk.

I was able to actually use the Ghost Corporate Client/agent installed on the BCM to ghost regularly ... works VERY well ...

It may be a stupid question: I have not used the Ghost. Can someone explain how does this work?

I assume I will have to follow the following steps:

1. Install Ghost on a PC
2. Attach the New Hard Drive to the PC.
3. Deattach the Original HDD from BCM and attach to the PC
4. Run the Ghost to copy the Image of the BCM HDD to the new HDD.

How long does it take to copy the image?

I am asking this question based on the assumption that all the above steps are correct. My concern is the BCM downtime (If i have to take the BCM HDD out then it would be down during the entire process).

It takes about 10-15 mins to image the drive on the Dell machine I have and it is not a great spec P3 333Mhz 256 ram 20 gig hard drive for operating system.

MrMarshall,

Thanks for the reply. Just confirming the 4 steps I mentioned above, are these correct?

Thanks

If your using Ghost Corporate, you can push an "agent" that loads on any NT/2k/xp machine and can take an imagine while its runnings.. just like veratas or CA have for their popular backup problems ...

Do the procedures using Ghost work when taking an image of the BCM50 SATA hard drive and its EXT2 file system?

dont know, but i've tried it with acronis trueimage and the bcm50 drive and it worked perfectly.

Yes, once the BCM in a member of the 2k domain, you can just push the agent.

We have 20GB HDD on BCM, do i need the same type of HDD to create the image or i can use any HDD?

i've used a 40gb as the new harddisk. worked fine. but create partitions with the same size the old hd had!

Thanks for the response. Lwt me give it a try.
