Hi -
Hope you all a good festive season.

About to start a word document that will be image heavy - about 50%
In the past when I have set up similiar docs the file size becomes rather large and I have trouble printing...

What advice would you give in setting up a doc that has many images...
How would you embed the images - file.place.jpeg
or cut and paste
or drag straight from Photoshop...

Thanks

georgyboy,

If these are for intra company use & there is a network, you could replace the images with links to keep size down. Barring that:

You can try what most web designers/people do and shrink your images file size. If you have them the correct size in Photoshop. Use another app to create smaller file sizes by adj the quality setting with no resize.

What file type are you generating? Hopefully not PSD, gif or png are favored for the web with jpeg close behind. Has to do with compression that I do not fully understand. What I do know is that good viewing quality images can be produced in the 10=60KB size range. Normally, if the viewing quality is good then printing to bond paper will also be good(not great). You can adjust until you get something that you find is a pleasing compromise.

There are also free file type converters.

Here is one file size shrinker that I have used with good results and it is free. Good interface.

Easy Thumb

Hope this helps

Thanks RVN -
The doc will be printed out so I still want to keep some quality with photos -
All the images are correct size and re-sizing within word is minimal, would draggin straight from PS to Word be bloating my file size up??

Should the file size actually hinder the printing of the doc??

Maybe its my printer....

georgyboy,

Yes, the word file size could get large, especially if these are digital photos.I have worked on some photos that are 1-5GB in size. Determine what your file sizes are first.

You pic file size should stay the same draggin/dropin, but as I said these can be large, Check'em.

I am not sure what you mean by "hinder printing", if you are talking about time to print then yes as large graphics take more time to render. As I already stated, on bond paper a lower res pic will normally look better than a high res one. Owing to the higher flooding the fiber with ink. Bond is not photo quality paper. Just try it!

I recommend using Insert, Picture From File to insert a picture into Word. Always size the image in an editor before inserting. Also set the required MINIMUM quality required. If the image is only for reading on screen, 96dpi is satisfactory. If the document is to be printed, use 144 or 150dpi. If the document is to be sent to a printer, then consult with the printer nefore making the decision.
