Hi All

I recently ran the file recovery program "Recover my files" on a laptop to recover picture for a friend. This process was mostly successful however some of the files although seemd to recover will not display. previews will not draw and they pictures will not display in Photoshop or anything.

Checking the file size it seems that all of the file is there. Can anyone suggest any good piece of software that may be able to display these recovered images as far as I can see they are all jpeg format.

Cheers

Understanding the basics is asked here...

when a file gets deleted by windows, only the MFT entry gets flagged as deleted, the area that the file resides in gets freed, but the file data is left untouched, until...

the OS saves another file, sees that the area the other file resided in is free, and voila overwrites the file completely or only portions of it...

now someone tries to recover these files and gets corrupted pictures or other files... ergo they are no longer coherent and are damaged too far to be able to be of use...

with that said: I do not think that there is any software that would UNCORRUPT those images etc...

I agree with BadBigBen. However if you use some good recovery software the file may be viewable. You may find something by doing a google search.
Some good software for viewing picture formats is Irfanview:

On a whim, can you change the file extension to a bitmap (.bmp) or something?
