Just wondering if any 1 knows how to do this, a boot up disk that extracts an image form a server to the pc, but when you insert the floppy it asks you for a name and other info before it starts to down load the image?

example stick in floppy, then it loads up, then it asks you for name of pc and any other info like if you want a static ip ,map drives path, etc..., every time you press enter it asks you then it down loads the os image then after the down it changes the sid.
i know you can use unattended but if you have a name structure and want to name each pc differently.

You need to create a sysprep answer file. You will find the information of how to do that on the installation cd under Support > Tools in the Deploy.cab file.

There is a tool in that cab named Setup Manager. You can use it to create the answer file for you. You will need to open the file after you are done creating the file open it with notepad and under the Computer name change the name so that it has an illegal character in it. That makes the mini setup stop during the final part of the image install and prompt you for a name that doe not contain illegal characters. I use a * to get the prompt.

You will need to download the most recent sysprep utility from MS. After you have done that and setup the image just way way you want it run the sysprep tool. The system will shutdown. DO NOT RESTART it. Use your image software to create the image. I use Ghost. You will not need the floppy to deliver the answer file since it is in the image. If you are using Ghost Multicast Server you will need the create the disk for for NIC to boot to the network.

i know that but what iam looking for it does it all, at the start, then it down load the image. it does it all in dos then after you have given the answers then is start to dl the image.

Look at the Corporate version of Symantec Ghost.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
