iMac G5.....can it be used as a passive display?

Hi,

I am tempeted to buy a 17inch G5 iMac.

But I was told that built in monitor may not be used as a passive display.

The reason I was a bit concerned is that I like to buy new computers but keep the old monitors (especailly a beauty like this one).

Is there a way/(or a kit) available to make this computer just a passive display for future upgrades?

The display is on a digital interface, and there's no place to plug it in to
either VGA or DVI standard cables.

Short of buying a VGA/HDvideo converter (and piping it in on Firewire as
HD video), it's just not going to work that way.
