The documentation for some software we have just purchased includes
The counter is set to 000001 and incremented every working day. When the counter reaches 999999 it must be reset to 000001
So I'll make an entry in my diary then.

Yeah, you'll only need to wait 273 years (and some change), but that should be close enough to warrent a reset...

Scott

I'm not sure either, Columb...what are you looking for with this thread?

Well, let's just say the humour of the instructions which, at first glance seemed sensible, but on second glance were ridiculous, appealed to me (and my co-workers). Here on a forum where we pride ourselves on our meticulous use of the written word I thought others might appreciate it as well.

Okay...got it!

And Maniac, here on the Third Rock from The Sun, it takes us only 365.25 days to make the round trip, not the 3663 days as it does on your planet. <grin> So, since the doc says that the counter is "incremented every working day" (...roughly 300 working days per year), then their counter lasts only about 3663 years, and someone will need to reset the counter then. <an even bigger grin>

OK, assuming a working week of monday to Friday this gives us 52 * 5 working days = 260.

There are 8 bank holidays in the UK (Actually, strictly speaking, 6 of them are bank holidays and 2 are common law holidays) this gives a figure of 252.

So therefore, the counter will need to be reset in 3968.25 years.

Best set a reminder in Outlook.

As you may have guessed, I am at work and I am bored.

That's true, Addy, for the UK...but we have a higher rate of productivity here in the U.S....we work 6 days per week...and on the 7th day we rest...and some us us "rest" that day by spending all day "working" at church.<a grin and a wink>

Santa Mufasa,

but we have a higher rate of productivity here in the U.S....we work 6 days per week...

Oh, and here in the U.S. we have a little lower productivity, we mostly work 5 days per week. At our jobs, that is.

Stella ???

[thumbsup2] Wow, I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time.
I think I've forgotten this before.

But as the OP, I work to UK civil service terms and conditions which menas that we work five days a week, have the eight bank holidays plus the Queen's birthday (God bless her) plus an extra day at Christmas plus Maunday Thursday - whcih reduces addy's figure of 252 down to 249.

Was the software written by the Dharma Initiative (y'know, as in "Lost")?

I didn't understand your post are you reffering to a different location in the U.S. than Santa or a different U.S..

I didn't understand your post are you reffering to a different location in the U.S. than Santa or a different U.S..

Well, Santa Mufasa put it as if "here in the U.S.", in all locations and all jobs, all of us, work 6 days a week. I don't agree with that, since I work 5 days a week (not counting the housework, running errands, raising a family, etc.), and so do many of the people I know - but I also live in the US. So you did understand me correctly; I intentionally played on that, meaning different location (or different something, at least) - but putting it as if it was a different US. Still, I accented the word 'here', which hinted at the location or a similar difference.

I got it. It just took a minute to wrap my brain around it.

I'm also of U.S. origin and work a max of five days but would prefer less. My 'here' is slightly north of Santa but not much.

MrMilson,

Here all along, I figured you for being a D.C. boy, which puts you about 100 miles south of me and about 2,400 miles east of me, right?

Well, I was taking into account for extreme risk-aversion, and to ensure that no one forgets, put it on a 273 year schedule... okay, call me paranoid...

Hey, did you say Paranoid???

I'm a DC boy, but atleast not a government boy because it would then be 4 working days a week :)

And I wouldn't even be taking into account productive working days

Santa,

Correct if indeed I were a D.C. boy. However, in reality I'm roughly a 60 minute ride North on I-15. I believe thats close enough for a cold one. Assuming that I'll be a good boy this year of course.

...then I'm guessing that you must work for the gov't (perhaps at Hill AFB?), which is what gave me the impression that you were a D.C. boy. Sorry.
