I'm making an isometric tank game. This calls for large maps. I've been using Adobe Photoshop to make the base of my maps, but it puts everything in layers and pisses me off. MSpaint can only load a pic so big or it freezes, so that know good. Director won't let you draw that far off the regpoint. Does ne one know a good prog that has a zoom feature, no layers, and loads large files? Also, director has limitations on map size itself. Should i make read a part of a member at once? And how does the coord system work inside the paint thingy. And if i put all my objects on the map and scroll that way, how would i do clipping? Need some ideas on how to make maps not such a pain in the kneck.

I don't know if I have understood this problem correctly, but in Photoshop you can anytime flatten the layers, or you can use "save as" option and save as a jpeg and then import it in Director.

As for the co-ordinates problem, if you can explain the problem a bit more in detail, I may be able to help you.

clipping is not really neccessary. Just load a few maps (1? 10? 100? put them on the coordinates you want. (I guess the max pixel coordinate is 32767 and the min is -32767? ) Clipping is done automatically at the regions of your movie and if you want to have a menu on the right for example just put it on top of the map. If you scroll the map then just scroll all the bitmap members to the same direction. Director won't draw the off-screen images
Maybe you can think about tiles. A bunch of different small images that are repeated throughout the map (grass, water, sand, road, sand-to-road-left-to-right, water-to-grass-top-top-bottom, etc.etc)(all of that games work that way)
