Illustrator to Pagemaker

I am trying to copy and past some Illustrator type to a Pagemaker document. When I copy the type and paste it into PM, a square,gray box appears that says "Adobe Illustrator" with the date and time. I am relatively new to both products and would appreciate anyone's help. Thank You.

If it's all the artistic attributes you want to save (color, typeface, effects, styles, etc.), what you want to do is not "cut and paste" so much as "save and place." Remove elements in the Illustrator document you don't want to have appear on the PageMaker page, and save that document as an EPS. Then go PageMaker and place the EPS on the page (I forget what exact command you use, being a Quark XPress user for many years). If something else appears behind the object, it can be seen peeking out from behind it, and you can scale it and crop it on the page, so it's as good as cut-and-pasted, except if you want to edit it, you have to go back to Illustrator.
If you just want to send the wording to PageMaker, then export the text as a .TXT document, then bring it into PageMaker the way you'd bring in any story, giving it color, typeface, etc. in PageMaker.

It's possible that you are using the wrong tool. In AI, use the Type tool (the one that looks like the letter "T&quot to select the type, then copy. Go to PM then choose Edit/Paste Special... and select txt. I'm on a Mac so this may not translate exactly if you are running Bill Gates' lovely O.S. but it should be similar.

Does the type you are trying to get from AI to PM have some special effects not possible in PM? e.g. outlined in a different colour to the fill? If so, save the AI as an EPS, and you will have to save it down to an earlier version of AI (choice shows up when you save). This is because PM is much older code than AI and doesn't recognise the latest versions of AI. I usually save down to V7 AI and then use File>PLace to bring the EPS into PM. If you need to edit, you will have to go back to AI and repeat the save as an EPS. If there are no special effects on the AI text, just create it in PM.
