Hello Clever People

Have any of you experienced a glitch with Adobe Illustrator (CS2) whereby when you input a type number (font size, leading, horitontal scaling etc) in the type tool box, or changed a stroke weight in the stroke tool box, that it doesnt register the change and just ignores it. What's weird and glitchy about it is for example: If I try and change 8pt type to 9pt, it ignores this change, however I can trick it into working by then tyring another point size e.g 11pt which it does, then making it do 9pt - this works. So what I am saying is it just always rejects the first value I give it to do. Very weird. If any body has solved this for me I would be grateful of the solution - it's driving me bonkers.
Many thanks

...if you are having trouble with illustrator have you tried resetting the preferences file, this may be playing up...

...if on mac hold down apple + alt + shift key on launching illustrator...

Location of Illustrator preferences files (CS2 and CS on Windows):

Adobe Illustrator stores its preferences file (AIPrefs) in the following locations:

Note: If you can't find the AIPrefs file in the following locations, enable Windows to show hidden files and folders. For instructions, refer to your Windows documentation.

-- Illustrator CS:

Documents and Settings/[ user name ]/Application Data/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS Settings/AIPrefs

-- Illustrator CS2:

Documents and Settings/[ user name ]/Application Data/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings/AIPrefs

Thanks Andrew, knew there were bright people here. As it goes I am on a Mac, and your comprhensive advise covered both Mac and Windows. I have reset the prefs and initially things look good. I will test it for a day and if the problem is solved I will post confirmation here...

Thx Andrew

:-( Thanks for your suggestion. However, it didn't solve the problem.
