illustrator slow startup

I have illustrator 9 on a p3-733 256 meg. When I start illustrator it takes about 10 secs to reach "loading startup settings", then a further 60 secs to the ready stage. If I have been using autocad prior to starting illustrator it takes over 2 mins. Is this normal or is there changes I can make.

it depends how many fonts and plug-ins are installed. Look in the splash screen what takes most time during loading...
