Illustrator seems to get slow when using text on paths

I'm having this problem - Illy take about 3-4 secs to screen refresh whenever I do something. I don't having any placed images, complex shape etc. - just a few circles.

This delay occurs when I do anything - move the screen (hand tool) select, deselect, change text, change colours etc. etc.

Should Illy's performance be so greatly affected by merely text on paths?

Further to my post above, the delays only seem to occur when the text on paths are visible onscreen. When I'm looking elsewhere on my file, everything seems to run as normal.
