Hi,

I have creative suite 2 and my Illustrator won't open. Here is the message I get:

the application Adobe illustrator CS2 quit unexpectedly.

I re-installed the Illustrator program only then restarted my computer but Illustrator still won't open.

Should I reinstall the entire Creative Suite again? If so, do I trash the entire creative suite before I reinstall it all again?

...you need to press "apple + i" key on an eps file (or choose file > get info)..."

OK, I pressed "apple +i" and a window came up that is titled "desktop info"

I do not see any button that says "change all" .

the window has four headers, General, More Info, Preview, Sharing and Permissions.

Is this the correct window?

...your getting the desktop info because you haven't chosen an eps file, select an eps file, then press "apple + i"...

It worked!

Thanks for all your help. Maybe you would like to help me with my fonts problems.

If you want to help me with my font problem. As you know I had my computer overhauled at the Apple Store. Of the two problems I've encountered since i brought my computer, you've solved one. The other is my font problem. I do have some fonts available to me, but other fonts (all the nicer design fonts) are missing. Here's what I have:

hard drive>library>fonts (157 fonts)

hard drive>system>fonts (36 fonts)

hard drive>user>library>fonts (empty)

hard drive>users>library>font collection (Fixed Width.collection, Fun.collection, Modern.collection, PDF.collection, Traditional.collection, Web.collection)

This happened today: I wanted to use a certain font and it wasn't in Illustrator's type pallette. But when I opened an older existing job I was working on, a job that used that font, it oped with the correct font.

Also, I can't seem to find suitcase on my computer.

...depending on how the tech from apple restored your OS, then all the fonts would have been deleted when the OS was reinstalled, the fonts you have on there now are from the system install process...

...if the apple tech performed an "archive and install" process then you would have a folder on your desktop which holds the old system which would contain the fonts you did have on that old system, as well as everything else...

..."archive and install" allows you to recover files after reinstalling a fresh OS...

...if the apple tech didn't do an "archive and install", then the reinstall would have overwritten all your fonts etc, etc...

...suitcase would also have been removed, meaning you will need to reinstall that program...

>>> hard drive>users>library>font collection (Fixed Width.collection, Fun.collection, Modern.collection, PDF.collection, Traditional.collection, Web.collection) <<<

...the above "fontcollection" folder is for the apple font management program "fontbook", found in the applications folder...

...you can launch that and see all the fonts installed, the font you are querying would be in the fontbook list somewhere...

...rule of thumb with fonts is to keep your system/user folder fonts clean as possible and use a font management program like suitcase or fontexplorer from linotype:

...fontexplorer is actually better than suitcase from a professional point of view...

...if not using either of those two programs, then use fontbook...

Andrew,

I get this message now when I open my applications, they are still able to open so i don't know why this message comes up.

"Alert
FMCore has been stopped. Please start it from the
System Preferences pane and then relaunch Adobe
Illustrator CS2."

This also happens with Photoshop and In Design.

...that is the suitcase fusion core preference pane, found under apple menu on the desktop top menu > system preferences...

...it is found at the bottom of the preferences dialog...

...suitcase fusion core keeps fonts active even if the application is closed...

...not needed by every user, suitcase still works with it off...
