Illustrator file won't open 1

Can anyone help me? I have been working on a map in Illustrator for about a month. It contains Chinese Characters if that matters. Three days ago, I was unable to open the file, and got an error message saying that opening the illustration was interrupted and the offending operator was XI. I can place it in another file, but I can't modify what was already there. I really need to open (and finish) this project.

...sorry, been heavily side tracked here, our exchange mail server appears to have packed up, this means I cannot get the file, my original address has limited upload on smtp...

...choose the file to upload, enter my email address for recipient and a descriptive name, click accept and then upload. Copy the special link in the next window and email it to me, i will then download the file via this special link...
