Hello, I'm new to web design and have a question. In Illustrator I drew a square box with rounded corners with a gradient for a background, then drew individual buttons for "Home", "Contact us", "About" ect, over the top of my background. So now I have a background layer, and a layer for each button I created. Now, how do I import that into GoLive as one image and so that I have access to the buttons so I can apply links to them? Everytime I try it splits the image up into seperate Jpegs, or it just shows us as one image and I can't link the buttons to anything.

Please help...

Thanks

Usually the button images are split up into seperate images with each button having it's own link.

If you leave the buttons together as one image GoLive can use it as an image map where you can define seperate areas of the image different links. To make an image map select the image, in the inspector click the more tab. select the use map option and give the image an id that makes sense to you. The tool bar will now have icons for drawing rectagles, circles, etc... on the image and you can give each area a seperate link.

Hey wiser3, I did what you said but had no success. When I check "use map" and input a name I get no toolbox that allows me to select any areas.

Is there a better way to accomplish what I am trying to do? I'm trying to us Illustrator to make unique looking buttons with a unique looking background that I can use in GoLive. I tried spliting the images in Illustrator except when I save to web it splits the images up into several jgegs. What do you do with all of those jpegs once in GoLive? Why doesn't GoLive reassemble the image for you? Since I'm new to web design I don't know the best way to get the look I'm after. It looks great in Illustrator, I just need it to look like that in GoLive.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

When you check "use map" in GoLive the icons that allow you to define linkable arrows appear in the toolbar, just below the menus.

I usually use Illustrator to make buttons (I use photoshop) so i'm not sure exactly what Illustrator is doing. But basically take all the button files from Illustrator and paste them into your website in Golive. Then use GoLive's various web authoring tools to arrange them how you want.

I come across a lot of print oriented people that have problems making web pages/sites. The web is very different from print. It requires a different way of thinking and looking at things.

Thank you for your help. I think I figured it out.
