Hi everyone! I'm new here. I'm primarily a Windows user, but dabble a little bit with macs while doing graphics.

So, here's my problem. I have created an illustrator *.AI file on a G3 OS 8.6 and illustrator version 9. When I bring it over to my PC, and open it up in illustrator 9 on my PC (windows 98SE, btw), it goes batty. I am not able to rotate, scale or reshape lines. But, if a create a brand new file in illustrator on my PC, it works fine.

Is there a special way I would need to save the illustrator on the Mac so that it can be used on my PC?

Thanks,
Force Flow

It could be font issues if you have text on your document. Try saving the file to an .eps and create outlines on any fonts. Then see what happens when you open the file on the PC.

In pre Illustrator 7, you would save your .ai as an .eps in order to open in Illustrator for PC. although there should not be any problems going from MAC to PC, but try to "Save As" and select EPS and see if you have any luck. Hope this helps

are both illustrators up to date on patches?

Can you cut and paste from the problem file into a new document on the PC? What happens then?
Also what if you save the file again on the PC and take it back to the Mac? Is it once again editable?

jAQUAN, the PC version is not patched, and I severly doubt that the Mac's is either.

BigRedX, Yes, I can cut and paste to a new doc on the PC. The problem with that is I have to do it layer by layer and have to manually adjust the placement of each layer (I don't know if there's a faster way or not).

When it is brought to the mac, it is editable, but I haven't tried back again, though. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

in the layers pallete's drop down menu select "Paste remembers layers" and the patches are free at

Hi again! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you guys. I've been bombarded with a slew of work.

Anyway, saving the file in the EPS format works on both the Mac any my PC, and it also works if I create the file on the PC first.

Thanks for your help guys! :)
