I recently reinstalled AI9 on 2k and am experiencing horrible performance for some reason. My basic specs:

Nforce2 400FSB
AthlonXP 2300
512MB RAM
GeForce4 Ti4600 128MB

I run a lean system with minimal items in my "Run" registry keys and Startup folders. Yet, whenever I open a file in AI9, it seems to be constantly accessing the hard disk and I get the hourglass cursor about 50% of the time, every second or so. This makes the program very unresponsive and nearly unusable. My 2k swapfile is on a separate partition, and is about twice my system RAM as recommended for AI. Any idea what is going on here. Oh, and the program performed fine on a previous install on the same hardware, with the exception of the motherboard, which I recently upgraded to. I previously had an Abit KG7-RAID.

Well... with 512MB RAM, AI shouldn't be paging much to the hard drive at all, except to load the program of course, and unfortunately only in AI10 can you change the Paging Drive to other than c: like in Photoshop. (Which is GREAT for performance, esp. w/ 2 physical drives)

But read this... Norton Utilities?

If not...

This may be be old hat / Already tried...but:
Optimizing AI performance:

Beyond that... I suggest you use the Performance Snapins to measure Page Writes / processor / HD usage to get a picture of HOW it is using or misusing your resources... that will give you more ammo.

BTW: AI9 probably puts your .tmp files (temp page file) in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\ so that would be the problem area (space?, speed?) if any. But, again, with 10 you can put it on, say E:\

Sef.

Thanks Triska. Norton was the culprit. AI is smooth as silk now and I can get back to work.
