I've setup my IIS5 installation on Win 2000 Server and all is fine...

I have 2 files <index.asp> and <index.shtml>. Index.asp cannot include Server Side Include elements, but index.shtml can (ActivePerl installed OK). Each file on it's own is OK... but if you set index.shtml as the home page I get:

401 AUTHENTICTION REQUIED

I have re-set the default document... any ideas?

I was unable to duplicate your problem. I added a .shtml page to my web directory and set it as the home page, and the page worked fine. (IIS 5, Windows 2000) It sounds like a possible permissions issue from what you're saying. Check to make sure that the directory has permissions for anynomous visitors. Also, on a side note, Active Perl is NOT required to run shtml pages, only files with the extension .pl or .cgi, which are executable scripts. Also, try setting index.shtml as the onyl default document. Make sure that no other files are in the list.

When I set my home page in Internet Explorer it is set to the Virtual Directory not the specific file:

eg: home page: not:
I let IIS select the right file - and only set one entry as the default document. It only works with non shtml files.

Just as a work around, I have also tried Server.Transfer and Server.Execute and these successfully display the correct page but do not run the SSI's within the SHTML.

Thanks for your time and trouble.

Hey Guys,

The Solution for the problem above emntioned is download Service Pack2( to fix the bug in IIS5) and install and check the properties in the home directory. That should have Read option selected ok.

If problems feel free to contact me at svadlapatla@indiainfo.com

thanks
