Hi, I am a newbie of IIS5.0 so I hope you guys could help me on this. I want to host a web site on my home computer using IIS5.0 on Windows Professional. However the site can only be seen in the LAN network but not over the Internet. (For example, I test with someone with the same ISP and they can see my site.) I have set the permission to allow anonymous access and also set the files permission to allow ISUR_servername to access. In addition, I don't have any domain name so I just use my Internet ip address for hosting. I am really appreciate if someone could help me with this. Thanks.

Hello!

Right click on your web site IIS (Internet Information Services) click on properties Assign it your IP given by your ISP it will be acessable over the Internet.

I hope this Help. iis_guru@yahoo.com

Hi..thanks for your reply. I have already assigned the ip on my web site IIS but people using different ISP with myself cannot access my page but it can be accessed by someone using the same ISP. Furthmore they can all ping my computer so I think my internet connection is alrite.

Im having the same problem trying to run the site from home using IIS 5.1 in Windows XP. My home network can see the site but no one else can. I have a Linksys router with the port forwarding set to forward port 80 to 192.168.1.2 which is the IP of the computer that serves the site. Only the computers on my network can see the site. What else could be causing our probs?

Hello!

192.168.1.2 is it the IP assigned to the web site? if so then you need to assign the IP your ISP issued you.

I hope this will help iis_guru@yahoo.com

I forgot to check the obvious!!!

My ISP blocks port 80 to stop customers from running a web server.

Hey,

Make sure that your ISP doesnt block port 80. I was having the same prob and didnt even think that port 80 could be blocked and it was.

Also, you can keep the ip address as your network IP (192.168.1.#) and have no probs. The only thing you have to do is make sure that you have port forwarding set up on your router so that any reguest comining in on the port you set up will be forwarded to that computer. This will only work with a router. If you dont have one then you will have to use you WAN IP.
