I had IIS running for a day before the system crashed and now IIS won't start when I bootup.

I looked in the event log and it has two errors.

Event 7022 - Service Control Manager - The SMTP service hung on starting

Event 7022 - Service Control Manager - The Service hung on starting

And as these services hung I can't access the Personal Web Manager or Internet Services Manager. Clicking them just does nothing.

I am running Win2000 service Pack 2 on a P2 400 with 512MB ram.

Can anyone help me here? I really need to get this working soon.

Further to that under Services the World Wide Web Publishing Sevice is stuck on Starting so I assume this is the point it has crashed.

Would it solve the problem if I set this service to start manually and then start it once Windows has loaded?

I do have Zone Alarm Pro on my machine but it's not running when the machine boots.

But it does seem to block some internet traffic even when it's not apparently running. Is it still actually running in the background all the time?

Would I therefore have to uninstall it?

If so are there any alternative Firewalls that do work with IIS.
