IIS stop unexpectedly

Hello everyone.

I'm are using IIS 5.0 on W2K Server. IIS has been stopping unexpectedly.

The error messages:

The IIS Admin Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2
time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds:
No action.

The Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) service terminated
unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). The following corrective
action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No action.

The World Wide Web Publishing Service service terminated unexpectedly. It
has done this 2 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in
0 milliseconds: No action.

Research indicated the CodeRed worm could cause this problem. We applied the latest patch. No luck. The problem is still the same.

Anybody exprience this kind of problem before or have solution on this.

there is also a bug in exchange and of course I don't remember what it was but with IIS and E2k (if your running this on that server).

The workaround for that scenario is to edit some of the dependencies on IIS/e2k services. to get them to start in a better order.

Are you running Exchange 2000?

We had a similar issue awhile back. We were only running Win 2k SP2. Once we added all the needed security patches and increased to SP3. Rebooted everything worked fine after that.

Hi all,

experiencing the same problem, IIS unexpectedly terminates on a regular basis and knocks out Web publishing service. Tried all the tips mentioned here and in other threads, we're already at sp3 and fully patched, so at a loss as to why it keeps happening. Any advice or guidance would be gratefully appreciated as I'm not a fan of being called to work at all hours!
