IIS Serving Pages Slow on Seperate SubNet

OK, I have a problem with IIS on Win2K Server.

We have two subnets, class C.

The main subnet can access our "client database" no problem. It loads like a charm.. however, our second subnet takes about 15 seconds to load a page from our "client database".

Using the same SQL server, a computer on the second subnet can load a page from our "staff database" without any delay.. so it is confined to this one "Client Database".

Any ideas if IIS could be causing this behavior?

Hi, I think that's a DNS issue. The delay is likely caused by the wins broadcast. To be sure try this:

ping a machine in the other subnet. If the response specify something like: pinging "hostname.YOURDOMAIN" it's the DNS server that resolved the address, if it's only "pinging hostname" it's the wins server that resolved the address.

Try to add a DNS suffix in your server (your domain name in the network connection/tcp/ip, dns)

Hope this helps. Please let know if this resolve your issue

this is done via a webpage, and done using a FQDN. So Wins is ruled out, as we never make a connection other than with the FQDN on the webpage.

I did notice that we setup our intranet address in DNS as a CNAME, which gives the FQDN for the address.. this appears to make a host request a second DNS for the FQDN after it's first request.. would this be correct?

OK.. we solved our problem... and like your assumption it was a DNS issue...

However, it was because we had not added a new zone. Adding the new zone caused all the latency to dissapear.
