IIS Server Configuration for Avaya IP Phones

Does Avaya provide any documentation on how to exactly setup the Windows IIS server to support Avaya IP telephones both 46xx and 96xx?

I have gotten this working plenty of times but some of our customers are looking for documentation from Avaya on the specific configurations.

If anybody can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

Yes, its called the LAN Administrators Guide...

4600 series:

9600 series:

its almost the same for the 9600 sets, except the DHCP Option is 242 instead of 176, and instead of the line looking like:

DHCP Option 176
MCIPADD=10.10.10.235,10.10.10.211,MCPORT=1719,TFTPSRVR=10.10.10.235

It looks more like:

DHCP Option 242:
MCIPADD=10.10.10.235,10.10.10.211,MCPORT=1719,HTTPSRVR=10.10.10.235
OR
MCIPADD=10.10.10.235,10.10.10.211,MCPORT=1719,TLSSRVR=10.10.10.235

(the difference is using TLS on port 411 versus HTTP on port 80 or 81)

Thanks Mitch...Thats the document I send them but I had one customer complain that it was vague on the IIS portion. I've never had issues with any other customers I think the problem was that when he was making changes to his IIS server he wasnt stopping and restarting the IIS service.


HAHA....If I got discounts on the product I would sure give them to you. I was a stock holder up until yesterday. I sold out and bought Visa.

I'm trying for the first time to setup httpsrvr as file server for 4600 sets. I have it working for tftp, can't get it to work for http.

I'm using option 176. This is my code:

mcipadd=IPADDRESS,IPADRRESS, mcport=1719, httpsrvr=website.com,httpdir=AvayaSettings

From a browser I can enter website.com/avayasettings and see the directory of files.

On the phone during the bootup process, I see displayed:

HTTP:1 IPADDRESS

HTTP:1

http://IPADDRESS:80/avayasettings/46xxupgrade.scr

After a few seconds I see displayed:

HTTP -1 400

Can't figure this out. What am i missing?

Make sure the specifc file permission inherit the parent everyone access or however you have it setup

I had the same issue and it was because the 4621 didnt have permissions to read the files. I added that and had no problems after that.


The directory didn't give "internet_guest" access by default which puzzles me.

I have a 96xx set admin file that I keep handy on my PC. I checked Chapter 5 (Server Administration), and it goes through the various server set up types, ie...DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS and it does have some IIS info. Let me know and I can email it to you.

TechJimF, instead of "httpsrvr" in the Option 242 string, try "tlssrvr", which tells it to use HTTPS protocol, then in the 46xxsettings.txt file, you have the line "httpsrvr = x.x.x.x"

this seems to work for me, I use the S8300/S8400/S8500/S87XX's "/tftpboot" directory for the files, and the webserver.... no extra equipment needed
(as long as you have a 300 IP phone or fewer enivironment)

telcomworrk & simreal - We have given full permission to internet guest and still won't work.

Mitch - I was trying to get this to work from our corporate web-server. You're suggesting using the S8720s instead? I thought i could only use an S8300. Also use option 242 instead of 176 with 4600 sets using H.323?

Oh, anyone know what error -905 is? Can't find it documented anywhere.

TechJimF - yes, if you are talking about 4600 series phones (Option #176), only the S8300 supports TFTP. Option 242 is for 9600 series, and in general uses HTTP/HTTPS.

Error -905 is some type of HTTPS error... Here is a definition for HTTP errors:

OK, I've moved on and went back to my TFTP server.

Now my next issue, can't get backup/restore to work. Have it enabled in the settings file and the correct path, but it fails.

Any suggestions?

yes, but you need to folow the docs to setup your IIS server... the default user needs to have read/write permission, since the phone are "anonymous" and don't log in... make sure you enable "WebDAV" as well. I have it working.
