IIS newbie need help!

I am running IIS 5.1 on a Windows XP machine. I do not understand why, but any time I try to start iis, I recieve an error stating The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. Any ideas on why this is happening or how I can get my service started???

What service does it say is having problems in your event viewer? It might tell you what specifically to look at.
